traveling turtles:

A trip across
the atlantic

in late spring , huge sea turtles crawl
onto a beach in florida . each turtle digs
a nest in the sand . the mother turtle then
lays about 100 eggs . two months
later , tiny turtles hatch .

the young
turtles crawl out
of their holes and
into the ocean .

A long trip

the tiny turtles set out
on a long trip. they swim
across the atlantic ocean
and back again. the trip
takes between five and ten
years. the trip isthousands
of miles long.

scientists wanted to know
how the turtles made their
way across the ocean .
to find out , scientists put
''bathing suits'' on some
young sea turtles. the
suit were tied to special
machines. the machines
can follow how the turtles
swim.

how long will it take for
a young turtle to swim
across the atlantic
ocean ?
reply
takes five to ten years
this is thousands of kilometers long
